What is Accident Insurance and How Does it Work?

Accident insurance helps you pay for medical and other out-of-pocket costs that you may incur after an accidental injury. This includes emergency treatment, hospital stays, medical exams, as well as other expenses you may face such as transportation and lodging needs.

You may purchase an accident insurance plan like any other type of insurance plan. There is a premium for your coverage, which will vary based on your location and the specific plan you choose.

  • Accidents happen.
  • The cost related to recovery adds up.
  • It becomes difficult for people to rely solely on their core medical insurance to cover all their healthcare needs.

The average premium for family coverage has increased 22% over the last five years and 54% over the last ten years (Kaiser, 2019). Accident insurance is not complicated. Should the unexpected happen, such as death or a disability due to an accident, it would pay you or your beneficiaries’ cash.

  • Individuals and families with active lifestyles and small children
  • Anyone with current health insurance
  • Anyone with a limited budget for unexpected medical expenses
  • Individuals or families looking for affordable alternatives to life insurance or to supplement their life insurance coverage
  • Individuals who do not qualify for life insurance/ disability insurance due to medical reasons or pre-existing condition

“AIBG offers three plans through The SureBridge Insurance Company to meet your needs. See their Companion, Critical, and the Lump Sum Plans below:

The SureBridge Accident Companion plan is designed to be paired with health insurance to assist with the payment of the deductible and coinsurance in the event of an accident. The plan pays cash benefits for the first occurrence of accidental injuries resulting in hospital confinement or treatment in an emergency room or urgent care facility, including follow-up treatment and follow-up physical therapy after coverage becomes effective.

The Critical Accident Direct plan pays a one-time lump sum benefit for an accidental injury resulting in quadriplegia, paraplegia, hemiplegia, burns, or coma that occurs after coverage becomes effective.

The Accident Direct plan pays a cash benefit when the hospital is confined within 45 days due to the first occurrence of accidental injuries that occur after coverage becomes effective. Chesapeake’s ProtectFit Plus plan pays cash and daily benefits for accident-related care, such as emergency medical care, hospitalization, in-hospital rehabilitation, disability, or other covered expenses after coverage becomes effective.

Depending on your family size, location, and coverage goals, AIBG has a plan to help meet your needs.
